The Evidence Crew: 10 Nature Cases to Crack, Nature book cover

Welcome to LIFE AROUND US

Amara, Ayaan, Mei and Theo are preparing a new Discovery Day exhibition. Habitat cards, food-chain arrows, flowers, seeds, life-cycle models and nature-survey evidence have arrived at the Case Base.

Some labels are missing. Some arrows are wrong. Several claims go further than the evidence supports.

You are the fifth member of the Crew. Examine the clues, compare explanations and ask: What does the evidence actually support?

Ten mysteries to investigate

Places, plants and relationships

  1. The Under-Log Mystery
  2. The Broken Food Chain
  3. The Pollen Mix-Up
  4. The Travelling Seeds
  5. The Wilting Corner

Patterns, change and connections

  1. The Mystery Key
  2. The Life-Cycle Loop
  3. The Beak-and-Foot Clue
  4. The Rotting Log
  5. The Web of Clues

Distinguish observation from inference, recognise unsupported claims and explain your conclusions. Finish with a Discovery Day challenge, answers and reasoning, a nature glossary and an Evidence Crew certificate.

Nature is closer than you think

Pavement trees, walls, gardens, balconies and small local habitats all have a place here. You do not need to live in the countryside.

Every clue needed to solve the cases is supplied in the book. No wildlife collecting or handling unknown fungi is required. Any optional outdoor observation should be safe, permitted and appropriately supervised.

Point, choose, speak, match, sketch or write a few words. The emphasis is on reasoning, rather than producing the longest written answer.
